Alfred: The Quiet History of a World War II Infantryman

Description of Alfred: The Quiet History of a World War II Infantryman

Review Many warriors who saw the worst of World War II came home to resume a quiet, peaceful life. Alfred [Endres] was one of those who tried to leave the horrors behind, and as a result, left his family and friends with little knowledge of what he had seen and done. From occasional cracks in his armor, his daughter pieced together the amazing history of a common man who suffered, endured, and survived to say in his own way war is a terrible thing. Weeping in reverence and gratitude, you'll be touched by the simple statements of true heroism. --Col. Roger T. Aeschliman, 35th Division (Retired)Interviews, massive amounts of research, and in-depth sleuthing give this book its authority. It interweaves the chronological history of Alfred's service with testimonies of others fighting alongside him. The book unfolds with a daughter's love for her father, her discovery of his hidden story, and the attempt to delicately draw it out before the opportunity has passed. --Kurt Meyer, guest columnist for the Wisconsin State JournalThis meticulously researched and beautifully written account of Alfred's war is also the war of many others. Like him, quiet and selfless soldiers throughout time have been willing to sacrifice everything for what is right and good. A priceless reminder of what real patriotism looks like. --Sara Rosenberry, US Embassy in Luxembourg, Foreign Service (Retired) Read more About the Author Raised with seven siblings on a farm in Lodi, Wisconsin, Louise Endres Moore graduated from St. Norbert College in Psychology with minors in Mathematics and Education. She taught in the Waukesha and Wauwatosa school districts until the births of her two daughters, Meg and Kate, and later completed a Master of Science in Computer Science Education from Cardinal Stritch University as an adjunct instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Her interest in psychology sustained her through the years of researching her father's path in World War II and his reluctance to speak of it. Louise lives with her husband, Kelly, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Their two grown daughters, Meg and Kate, both live in Kansas City. Read more
